The speed governor is a safety control component in the elevator’s safety protection system. If the elevator car exceeds 115% of the rated speed for any reason, causing the car to overspeed, or even threaten to fall, the speed governor immediately signals the driver to disconnect the power supply and brake the traction mechanism. If the traction mechanism still fails to brake, the speed governor activates the safety clamp at the bottom of the car, forcing the car to a stop. The speed governor is typically located on the floor slab within the elevator machine room, but it can also be installed directly on the load-bearing beam. For applications without a machine room, speed governors are also installed on the guide rails or in the pit floor.
Common Types of Overspeed Governors:
Traction Rope Governors: Standard governors using rope sheaves and centrifugal weights.
Electronic Governors: Integrated with sensors and control units for precise speed monitoring.
Hydraulic Governors: Used in hydraulic elevators for high-speed detection.
Key Features of Our Overspeed Governors:
✅ Rapid Response: Instant activation of safety gear when overspeed is detected.
✅ Durable Materials: High-strength steel and precision alloys for long-term reliability.
✅ High Precision: Accurate speed monitoring and consistent performance.
✅ Wide Compatibility: Suitable for various elevator types, including traction and hydraulic systems, supporting brands such as KONE, Otis, Schindler, and Mitsubishi.
At Yuanqi Elevator, we supply a wide range of overspeed governors compatible with all major elevator systems, supporting both maintenance and modernization needs.
