What you should know about escalators

Do know that the emergency stop button can save lives

The emergency stop button is usually located below the escalator's running lights. Once a passenger on the upper reaches of the escalator falls, the passenger closest to the "emergency stop button" of the escalator can immediately press the button, and the escalator will slowly and automatically stop within 2 seconds. The rest of the passengers should also remain calm and hold the handrails tightly. Follow-up passengers should not watch and give help to passengers in danger accurately and quickly.

When taking the escalator, when encountering an accident, or discovering that others have been in an accident, quickly press the emergency stop button, and the elevator will stop to avoid further injury to people.

Generally speaking, there are embedded emergency buttons, protruding ones, etc., but they are all eye-catching red. Emergency buttons are installed in places that are not easily triggered but are easy to find, usually in the following places:

1. At the handrail of the elevator entrance

2. The bottom of the inner cover of the elevator

3. The middle part of the large elevator

Escalator "bite" has nothing to do with weight

Compared with fixed parts, the risk factor of moving parts is relatively high. The moving parts of the escalator mainly include handrails and steps. Handrail injuries do not depend on weight, even adults can be taken down if they hold on to the handrail. The reason why escalator accidents happen to children is because they are young, curious, playful and unable to take timely and accurate actions when accidents happen.

The yellow "warning line" actually means that the comb board is easy to be "bitten" when stepping on it

There is a yellow line painted on the front and back of each rung. Many people only know that the warning line is to remind everyone not to step on the wrong steps. In fact, the part where the yellow paint is painted has a very critical structural part called the comb plate, which is responsible for the meshing of the upper and lower steps. As the name suggests, one side of the comb plate is like a tooth, with protrusions and grooves.

The country has clear regulations on the gap between the comb teeth and the teeth, and the interval is required to be about 1.5 mm. When the comb plate is intact, this gap is very safe, but if it is used for a long time, the comb plate will lose its teeth, as if a tooth has been lost in the mouth, and the gap between the alveolar becomes larger, making it easier for food to get stuck. Therefore, the gap between the two teeth will increase, and the child's toes just step on the gap between the teeth. When the upper and lower steps mesh, the risk of being "bitten" into the escalator also increases.

Escalator Step Frame and step gaps are the most dangerous places

When the escalator is running, the steps move up or down, and the fixed part that prevents people from falling out is called the step frame. The state clearly stipulates that the sum of the gaps between the left and right step frame and the steps must not exceed 7mm. When the escalator was first shipped from the factory, this gap was in line with the national standard.

However, the escalator will be worn and deformed after running for a certain period of time. At this time, the gap between the step frame and the steps may become larger. If it is close to the edge, it is easy to rub the shoes against the yellow border, and the shoes are likely to be rolled into this gap under the action of friction. The junction between the steps and the ground is equally dangerous, and the soles of children's shoes may be caught in the gap and pinch or even pinch their toes.

Escalators love to "bite" these shoes

clogs

According to a survey, the frequent "biting" incidents in elevators are mostly caused by children wearing soft foam shoes. The hole shoes are made of polyethylene resin, which is soft and has good anti-skid performance, so it is easy to sink deep on moving escalators and other transmission equipment. When an accident occurs, it is often difficult for children with low strength to remove the shoe.

Lace up shoes

The shoelaces are easy to fall into the gap in the elevator, and then part of the shoe is brought in, and the toes are caught. Before taking the escalator, parents who wear lace-up shoes should pay attention to whether they and their children's shoelaces are tied properly. In case of being caught, be sure to call for help in time, and ask the people at both ends to press the "stop" button as soon as possible to avoid more damage.

open toed shoes

Children's movements are not flexible and coordinated enough, and their vision is not accurate enough. Wearing open-toed shoes greatly increases the possibility of foot injuries. When taking the elevator, due to improper timing, you may hit the upper elevator and kick your toe. Therefore, when parents buy sandals for their children, it is best to choose a style that wraps their feet.

In addition, when taking the escalator, there are a few more points you must keep in mind:

1. Before getting on the elevator, determine the running direction of the elevator to avoid stepping backwards.

2. Do not ride the escalator barefoot or wearing loose lace shoes.

3. When wearing a long skirt or carrying items on the escalator, please pay attention to the hem of the skirt and items, and beware of being caught.

4. When entering the escalator, do not step on the junction of the two steps, so as not to fall due to the height difference between the front and rear steps.

5. When taking the escalator, hold the handrail firmly, and stand firmly on the steps with both feet. Do not lean on the sides of the escalator or lean on the handrail.

6. When an emergency occurs, don't be nervous, call for help, and remind others to press the emergency stop button immediately.

7. If you accidentally fall, you should interlock your hands and fingers to protect the back of your head and neck, and keep your elbows forward to protect your temples.

8. Avoid letting children and the elderly take the elevator alone, and it is strictly forbidden to play and fight on the elevator.
